    KAGA-YUZEN TORO NAGASHI: FLOATING LANTERN

Date: To be confirmed for 2016

Toro nagashi is a Japanese tradition where paper lanterns with candles inside are released into the river in the belief that this guides the spirits of departed ancestors back to the afterlife.

Kaga Yuzen Toro nagashi is held in respect of the connection between the river and Kaga Yuzen*, and to wish for the peace of ancestors’ spirits as well as for the prosperity of Kaga Yuzen. The peaceful view of 1,200 lanterns flowing down the clear waters of the Asano river stirs sentimental feelings among observers.

*Kaga Yuzen is a traditional technique of dyeing fabrics in Kanazawa.
