Katamachi shopping district on Route 157 has a wide range of shops, restaurants and bars, attracting people day and night. It is the busiest area in the Hokuriku region. Katamachi is busy during the daytime with people who enjoy shopping or going to restaurants for lunch. It has a variety of shops ranging from those with the latest fashion trends to traditional Kanazawa craft shops. Restaurants and cafes are popular among office workers working nearby. At night, it becomes the most bustling entertainment district in the Hokuriku region, illuminated with colorful neon signs. There are literally thousands of bars and eateries in Katamachi, one of the greatest concentrations anywhere in Japan. Izakaya (Japanese pub restaurants), folksy small restaurants, Japanese dining, bars, and clubs are available – it is the place to go to enjoy Kanazawa’s nightlife. There are also city hotels and reasonably priced hotels conveniently located to popular sightseeing spots.
