    Omicho Market – “Kanazawa’s kitchen”

    Posted on 01/07/2015

After checking in at the hotel, we bought one-day bus passes at the Hokuriku Railroad ticket center and went to Omi-cho market on the Kanazawa Loop Bus. Omi-cho market, known as “Kanazawa’s kitchen,” sells local fish, vegetables and fruit – Kanazawa is famous for its Nodoguro fish (black-throat sea perch). Guidebooks on Kanazawa recommend Kaisen-don (seafood on top of rice) in Omi-cho market so we went to Yama-san sushi, a sushi restaurant that a friend of mine living in Kanazawa recommended, for the best Kaisen-don. We wanted to make a reservation but they don’t take reservations during busy periods so we waited in a line for 10 to 15 minutes before getting a table. I looked around the restaurant and most of the customers were eating Kaisen-don. Of course, we ordered it too. I was shocked to see the size of it. It had so many different types of fish slices and they were really fresh. I was very satisfied. If you don’t know where to eat in Kanazawa, I would definitely recommend this place. The restaurant is just inside Ichihime-jinja entrance.
